  • The first part of a creative writing for Year 7 students. Students assess their own writing skills. and then build these skills up. Sentence types. punctuation. grammar. vocabulary and literary devices. Can be adapted to suit ability (I am aiming it here at writing levels 4–6).   • Creative writing is a fictional piece of writing that you will come across in high school. It is an important skill that you need to master. It is an important skill that you need to master. In Part 4 of the Beginner’s Guide to Year 7 & 8 English . we went through textual analysis and how to analyse techniques in texts.

Students encouraged in the criteria box to work with sensory language. sentence variation. interesting vocabulary. simile. metaphor. personification. Can be useful for baseline or end of unit test. cover work or homework — amend title as desired. Differentiation by outcome.
  • 7+ and 8+ creative writing is. for many students. one of the most difficult sections of the 7+ and 8+ exams. Whereas questions in Maths simply must be solved and there are only a finite number of topics which are tested. with creative writing it can sometimes be difficult putting pen to paper and starting to write. If ten minutes or so passes in the exam with little written down. panic can . . .
  • Year 7 and 8 Creative Writing Competition In February. pupils from years 7 and 8 took part in a creative writing competition. Year 7 had to write a description of a meal. inspired by Nigel Slater’s novel. Toast. Year 8 were asked to write the first chapter of a sequel to the novel they had been reading in class.
